2008, Obama's Historic Campaign Through Philadelphia

Tuesday March 18th, Obama's speech on race, "A More Perfect Union," at The National Constitution Center

Friday October 3rd, Abington High School.

Saturday October 11th, Vernon Park, Germantown:

Obama spent the day in Philly and stopped for a rally at Vernon Park in Germantown. There was a wonderful energy in the crisp air. With the Phillies up 2-0 against the Dodgers in the NLCS, with the sun shining on 74 degree fall Saturday in October, hope was everywhere.

Could the man himself hurt Hillary's chances of a cabinet position in the Obama Administration?

From Today's NY TIMES:

"...but Mr. Clinton’s postpresidential life as a globe-trotting philanthropist, business consultant and speech-giver poses the highest hurdle for Mrs. Clinton to overcome if President-elect Barack Obama chooses to nominate her as secretary of state, according to aides of the Clintons and Mr. Obama." Joe Biden

I had Joe Biden to myself for 3 photographs yesterday after he spoke to a crowd of 3,000 plus in Media, PA. Tom Namako arranged for a one and one interview and published his Q&A in this week's CP.

I wanted to use a ringflash, hoping I'd find an interesting texture to shoot against for a different political portrait. They set us up in a dirty white tent that had no feeling whatsoever. I asked if we could shoot outside the tent, against the evening sky, since the tent felt like a homeless hub. The point person asked the press rep, who asked another rep, who asked the secret service, who asked his campaign manager, who asked Joe, if I could shoot against the sky. I got the green light, fired off a handful of frames while he answered questions and took three photographs when he was done.

I'm Back

Sorry for the hiatus, I know the five people who check in here have been disappointed. I photographed Barack on Tuesday and was very inspired by his speech on race. I'm sure you've all heard it. Being there was very fulfilling. It's the first time I've heard a politician talk about race relations in our country without shrinking into an uncomfortable panic. Here's some outtakes:

Lastly, I came across this picture on the NY Times online. It seems my existence has been comfirmed by my brief appearance in the back of this photograph. I've always wanted to be published in The Times:
