Wake Up Hickey

Brian Hickey, friend, former colleague, talented journalist, wild spirit and loyal soul was hit by a pathetic individual who sped away and left him for dead last Friday in Collingswood, NJ. He's in a coma at Cooper Trauma and the Philadelphia area is waiting for him to break out of it. Mike Newall and Doron Taussig spent the earlier part of the week reporting on the accident and penned the best article in town.

Brian and I were invited to Citizens Bank Park in May of '07 as part of the Richie Ashburn Home Runs for Heart (Media Day). We brought our gloves, ran down fly balls in center field (well, attempted to) and had ten pitches at the plate. I took the top photograph of Brian as manager of the Phillies, I was his pitching coach. We laughed our asses off, couldn't shake the excitement, we were livin' the dream. Briefly.

There's a benefit for his family Friday December 12th from 7-11 at The Tap Room, 427 W. Crystal Lake Ave, Westmont NJ. The entrance fee is $25 at the door.
