Lord I've Been On Fire

"He's checked in to a mental institution and conquered England with an album nobody in the States has heard. It's been a hell of a year for pop genius Brian Christinzio."

I photographed Brian Christinzio (BC Camplight) for this week's City Paper cover story penned by Pat Rapa. I highly recommend reading the story. His latest album "Blink of a Nihilist" is out over seas, and soon to be released in the US.

I was first introduced to Brian by Brian McTear, at a sparse concert on a cold Monday night at The Point, February '03. Brian hammers away at the piano while singing beautiful melodies that bring to mind Brain Wilson and The Beatles. Listen to his music here.

Our concept was to illustrate his personal turmoil by photographing him at The Rodin Museum, in front of "The Gates of Hell." For the second set we moved to his neighbor's South Philly abode. The neighbor has a passion for taxidermy, so we got a bit carried away in the kitchen with Armadillos and the like.

I don't know who this guy is but I'm definitely afraid of him....he looks like he would kill, and then possibly eat, a puppy....

The images are very theatrical. If you listen to his music, you won't be afraid. You'll probably feel warm and cozy as the frost thickens.

The top portrait is really nice! Looked great on the cover.
